PREP:

Quilt Backing Preparation:

To ensure the best results during the longarm quilting process, when possible piece your quilt backing with the seam running parallel to the front roller bar. This orientation helps the fabric load evenly on the frame, minimizes tension issues, and supports a smoother quilting experience.

When piecing your backing:

  • Use a ½" seam allowance and press seams open to reduce bulk.

  • Trim selvages from the seam area to prevent puckering or distortion.

  • Ensure the backing is at least 4 inches larger than the quilt top on all sides. For example, if you have a quilt top that is 60" x 80", your backing should measure at least 68" x 88".

If I encounter any issues during the loading process, I will contact you right away to keep you informed.

If you have questions about how to orient or piece your backing, I’m happy to help before you send the quilt.

TIDY IT UP:

Please press your top and backing for me so that it's nice and tidy and ready for me to load. Please also clip stray threads or raveling fabrics as best as you can. You might not be able to get them all, but to prevent dark threads from shadowing through your quilt top, please don't skip this important step!

QUILTING CHOICE:

Quilting options are listed under the Designs tab. However, I want this process to be enjoyable for you—not overwhelming—so you’re welcome to let me select the quilting design for you if you prefer. The best choice often depends on the quilt’s purpose, and sometimes, “done” truly is best.
